The Geneva Lake branch of AAUW was organized in 1951 as the Lakeland Branch. We currently have about 90 members. The branch meets every month on the second Thursday of the month from April through December. Meetings generally consist of a brief business meeting and an informational, educational, entertaining program. Guests are welcome at most events.
We have several interests groups that meet year round. Members participate in books groups (a daytime group and an evening group), conversation circles, Lunch Bunch, hiking/biking/cross-country skiing, Culinary Quester’s, Great Decisions discussions, Bridge and movie groups.
Fund raising events have included a Soup & Signing event, local house walk and tea, silent auctions, and a speaker’s series. Funds are raised to support scholarships and other branch activities.
The Geneva Lake branch annually sponsors area middle school girls with scholarships to Camp Badger, a science, technology, and engineering camp at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Graduates of Camp Badger are also given an opportunity to be a mentor at the Young Astrophysicists program at Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, Wisconsin.
We also have a university partnership with UW-Whitewater. There is a growing and active group of young women who are student members of AAUW. One of our goals is to assist in sending them to the NCCWSL (National Conference for College Women Student Leaders) conference.
